What does a urinalysis show that bloodwork doesn’t?
Urine tells its own story. A urinalysis checks how well the kidneys concentrate urine — often the earliest clue to kidney disease — and screens for urinary tract infections, crystals, blood, glucose, and protein. Paired with bloodwork, it catches problems that either test alone can miss.
How much does pet bloodwork and urinalysis cost?
It depends on which panels your pet needs — a wellness screen for a healthy adult is different from an expanded senior panel or diagnostic workup. Does my pet need to fast before bloodwork?
For some panels, yes — a recent meal can affect blood sugar and fat values. We’ll let you know when you book whether your pet should skip breakfast, and for how long. Water is always fine, and most medications should be given as usual unless we tell you otherwise.
How is a urine sample collected?
Often the simplest way is a free-catch sample — collected mid-stream on a walk or from a clean, empty litter box — brought in fresh (within about an hour, refrigerated if needed). When a sterile sample matters, such as checking for infection, we collect it at the clinic. We’ll tell you which method fits your pet’s situation when you schedule.
